Sonal Phadnavis
Senior Project Manager & Product Owner Vancouver, Canada

Straddling diverse roles: from web developer, product manager to mother

Sonal’s 9-year journey with Snipp has been adventurous, to say the least. She’s moved halfway across the globe with her family – starting at Snipp’s Mumbai office to now working at the Vancouver headquarters. All while straddling diverse roles: web developer, project manager, pre-sales engineer, and, most recently, product manager.

Adding to her growing expertise is motherhood. After Snipp, Sonal usually finds her days filled with play dates for her two-year-old daughter or Bollywood Zumba workouts.

“Deep employer trust & confidence” – her greatest professional asset

Sonal admits that she loves shifting into different gears through life and work.

The multiple roles Sonal holds at Snipp allow her to remain “energized” by leading extensive cross-collaboration across teams. Jumping between the tech and business sides of Snipp pushes Sonal to take full ownership of her operations. She sees the nature of her work at Snipp as reflective of “deep employer trust and confidence” – the greatest professional asset for Sonal.

As much as the first cup of morning coffee, Sonal is excited about Snipp’s diverse client portfolio. Here, issues may appear to be similar, but each one needs to be tackled from a different angle. Putting herself in the shoes of the consumer and coming up with “out-of-the-box solutions” proves to be her ultimate jam. Recently, Sonal trained and onboarded her team of project managers, and that was a “full circle” moment with Snipp.

The secret sauce to a successful remote culture: empathy

Sonal considers empathy as her most powerful tool against challenges at work. In a remote multicultural work environment, she trains her team to always consider that their peers are “busier” than them. She feels this way everyone remains humble and can form a relationship based on appreciation, especially with remote colleagues.

Games-night queen, beer-lover & the clutter-free colleague

Apart from her tech and people skills, Sonal also throws the best games night parties, co-hosted with her husband at home. Expect competitive sessions of Code Names, Pictionary, and a cross between Taboo & Dumb Charades (a Phadnavis original). You definitely want an invitation to one of these soirées!

While Sonal is usually warm and friendly, she does have one great adversary – clutter. She’d prefer if you didn’t have multiple tabs open when sharing your screen with her.

But she’s quick to lose her OCD if the meeting is in a bar over beers.
